Fort Belvoir Primary Families

We are overjoyed to be the proud recipients of the Exemplary Community Partnership winner of the 2024 Pete Taylor Awards! Fort Belvoir Installation and Fairfax County Public Schools have had an extensive partnership that has positively impacted our community. Superintendent, Dr. Michelle Reid and Garrison Commander, COL Joseph V. Messina consistently collaborate to maintain and strengthen this partnership, ensuring that the needs of our military families are met with dedication and care.

Fort Belvoir Elementary School is immensely proud of the work we have done to ensure our military families feel welcome and supported. Our efforts to create an inclusive and nurturing environment for all students have been recognized, and we are honored to share that our hard work was recently acknowledged by the Military Children Education Coalition (MCEC). This international organization supports children growing up in military families by providing them, their parents, and professionals with essential programs, resources, and guidance. These efforts help children stay on course academically, socially, and emotionally, despite the unique challenges they may face.

The collaboration between Fort Belvoir and Fairfax County Public Schools is a testament to the power of community partnerships. Dr. Reid and COL Messina's ongoing efforts to enhance this relationship have been instrumental in our success. Through various initiatives and programs, we have worked tirelessly to address the needs of our military families, ensuring they receive the support and resources necessary for their children to thrive.

As the principal of Fort Belvoir (Primary) Elementary School, I am proud to share that we have received two major awards, including the Exemplary Community Partnership award. These achievements are a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our staff and entire school community.

Additionally, we want to thank Meredith Ayala, Family Partnerships Specialist for Military-Connected youth and families, and the Military-Connected Youth Process Action Team, a partnership between FCPS, Fort Belvoir, and George Mason University for their hard work and support. This team nominated FCPS and Fort Belvoir for the award. We will continue to strive for excellence, supporting our military families and fostering an environment where every student can succeed.

Together we are and will continue to be Fort Belvoir strong!

Inspiring FCPS School Leaders!

We are so thrilled about the upcoming school year. School leaders from across the district came together for the annual FCPS Leadership Kickoff, where excitement and enthusiasm filled the air. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about new initiatives and rekindle our passion for working with children centered around an Olympic theme. The event set the stage for an inspiring and productive year ahead, with everyone committed to making a positive impact on students' lives.

Our guest speaker, Brad Snyder, a retired US Navy EOD Officer and six-time Paralympic Gold Medalist, captivated the audience with his remarkable journey to greatness. He shared with the audience how he lost his sight while completing a mission. His story of perseverance, resilience, and triumph over adversity resonated deeply with all attendees. Brad's words were not just motivational but also a powerful reminder of the potential within each of us to achieve greatness, no matter the obstacles we face.

When we think of true bravery, we often look to our service men and women, and Brad Snyder exemplifies this courage. His incredible achievements and dedication serve as an inspiration to us all. As we embark on this new school year, we carry with us the lessons of determination and strength that Brad shared, ready to face challenges and seize opportunities to make a difference in the lives of our students.
