A Message from the Principal, Dr. Jemison

Dear Fort Belvoir Primary Families,

This past Tuesday was a momentous day as we welcomed Dr. Reid, our superintendent, to our school. Upon arrival, she received a warm greeting from our family ambassadors and the PTO president, followed by a touching gesture from our student ambassadors who presented her with purple tulips, symbolizing the military’s unity color - purple.

She and I engaged in a lengthy conversation about our shared experiences as military children. Her father’s service in the United States Army during the Korean War and my own father’s service during the Vietnam War provided a common ground for understanding. It was evident that she harbored a profound passion for all students, particularly those from military backgrounds. Our discussion highlighted the unique challenges and resilience cultivated within military families, fostering a sense of empathy and connection between us.

Dr. Reid’s visit provided her with firsthand insight into the dynamic academic environment within our classrooms, where she observed engaging learning experiences. Impressed by the evident dedication and progress, she acknowledged the high praise our school has received from others this year, prompting her desire to witness our continued success in meeting the diverse needs of our students, both academically and emotionally.

During her tour, she witnessed kindergarten students confidently reading and writing complete sentences, showcasing their early literacy skills. Additionally, she observed the critical thinking abilities of several second-grade students as they tackled some challenging word problems in math, articulating their problem-solving strategies with clarity and confidence. Their thought process exemplified the depth of our educational approach here at Fort Belvoir Primary and why we continue to excel as a school.

Together, we are Fort Belvoir strong!

In partnership,

Dr. LaZedrick (Zed) Jemison, Principal

March 25-29: Spring Break- School/Office Closed

April 10: Holiday- Eid al Fitr: School/Office Closed

National Pi Day at Fort Belvoir Primary - 3.14

What a fantastic way to commemorate National Pi(e) Day! Our school set an ambitious target for our students to read 100 books, and they not only achieved it but surpassed our expectations. To mark this achievement, the PTO generously provided pizza pies for the entire school community. As students indulged in delicious slices, they also learned about the mathematical concept of Pi, its value of 3.14, and its significance as the circumference of a circle. It was a fun and educational celebration for all involved. A BIG thank you to our outstanding PTO!

Irish Staff, Lucky Workplace!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! In the spirit of this festive occasion, we celebrate the rich heritage of our Irish and Irish-descended staff members. Their vibrant culture and traditions infuse our workplace with an extra dose of luck, creating a sense of camaraderie and warmth throughout the building. Today, we raise a toast of milk. May the luck of the Irish continue to shine upon us all!

Attention Fort Belvoir Families!

The You-Seum is looking for curators to create an exhibit of their collections.  The exhibit will be in the display case by the cafeteria and will be up for two weeks.  Families can sign up using this sign up genius: http://bit.ly/3RvSWfz.

FCPS Features our Amazing Dining Room Assistants!

Congratulations! We are extremely proud of Ms. Erin Gallatin and Ms. Pearla Dearth for being recognized as employees who show that FCPS Cares.

We are so fortunate to have two amazing cafeteria hostesses! Erin and Perla take the time to get to know the students, respond to their needs and ensure a positive lunch time experience. They have high expectations for the students, and also understand how to accommodate many unique needs. They use affirming language, acknowledge appropriate behavior and support students in reflecting when they make "less than positive" choices. These two amazing women make certain that more than 700 young learners (ages 5 - 8) have a safe and enjoyable time eating lunch and socializing with friends. We are very grateful for their hard work and commitment to our school community.

This information is posted on the February 2024 FCPS CARES webpage, accessible at https://www.fcps.edu/news/fcps-cares-february-2024 .  Thank you for your excellent service to FCPS and best wishes for continued success.

Bubble Gum Party for Attendance Success!

We are elated by our attendance data, which is showing a positive trend. Currently, only 15% of our student body has been frequently absent, compared to 26% at this time last year. This improvement is fantastic news, and we are eager to sustain this progress. To incentivize our students, the class with the highest attendance will enjoy a fun bubble gum party. Additionally, we’ ll organize an alternative celebration for our preschool students.

Let’s continue to work together to uphold this momentum, as it plays a crucial role in ensuring our students fully realize their learning potential. This celebration will take place on Friday, March 22nd right before spring break. Each month we will find a way to celebrate our accomplishments as a school. Your continued support is invaluable in this endeavor.

Round Table Talk with the Principal - Dr. Jemison

On Monday, March 18th at 9:30am in the cafeteria, we are excited to host a round table conversation with families to discuss the implementation of the new attendance mandates. This meeting serves as an opportunity to provide clarity on the expectations surrounding attendance and, more importantly, to provide an opportunity for collaboration with families.

Our goal is to address the unique needs of each family and work together to ensure their child is in school consistently as much as possible. We look forward to engaging in an open dialogue that enhances communication and strengthens the partnership between our school and the families we serve.

This questionnaire is part of the VDOE-mandated Performance Evaluation Program for principals and offers parents/guardians an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various topics related to our school. These topics include how the principal demonstrates/impacts instructional leadership, school climate, management, communication and community relations, culturally responsive and equitable leadership, and professionalism within the school.

Fort Belvoir Primary students and staff will be recognizing World Down Syndrome Day on Thursday, March 21 with “Rock Your Socks” where students may wear their favorite, wackiest, silliest, most colorful, fun socks! At Fort Belvoir Primary we want ALL students to be seen, valued, heard, and appreciated for their uniqueness. Subject Specific Advanced Differentiation, Grades K-6 (Level II)

Some students require differentiation beyond the needs of age-level peers in their class in at least one specific subject area. Classroom teachers may adjust instruction for students in these areas by:

  • Providing different assignments and resources in those subjects.
  • Grouping students by their strengths, interests, and readiness.
  • Providing additional challenges using materials from the AAP Curriculum Framework.

Student needs for subject specific differentiation are re-evaluated each year at the local school.

Part-Time Advanced Academic Programs, Grades 3-6 (Level III)Some students have advanced academic abilities in multiple subject areas and require differentiation beyond the needs of age-level peers in their class in multiple content areas.

  • Students work with other students that have similar academic needs through weekly pull-out classes or weekly co-taught lessons with the AART and classroom teacher.
  • Teachers provide frequent opportunities to use materials from the AAP Curriculum Framework in Language Arts, science, social studies, and/or mathematics.

Part-time services continue through Grade 6. Students do not need to be evaluated each year.

If you have any questions, reach out to Ms. Stafford directly ([email protected]).

A Message from the Principal, Dr. Jemison

We are thrilled to announce the tremendous success of our Read with 100 Soldiers event, held in celebration of Read Across America week. In recognition of the sacrifices made by military families, we invited soldiers to participate by reading to our students. Given that numerous families within our school community are currently serving in different military branches, this initiative aimed to bridge the gap of those parents stationed away from home. The response was heartwarming, with several soldiers seizing the opportunity to actively support their fellow servicemembers by engaging in the joy of reading with their children.

The event not only fostered a sense of connection and camaraderie among our school community but also highlighted the importance of supporting military families during their periods of separation. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the nearly two hundred soldiers that participated, contributing to a memorable and meaningful experience for Fort Belvoir Primary students.

A Message from the Principal, Dr. Jemison

Fort Belvoir Primary Families,

Over the weekend, Mrs. Flint, our assistant principal, and two dedicated teachers joined me in attending a teacher job fair. The event was an opportunity to showcase our school’s commitment to fostering a passion for education and nurturing a supportive environment for our students. Mr. Ray Lonnett, our Regional Assistant Superintendent, acknowledged the evident dedication to children within our school. As the principal of Fort Belvoir Primary and the proud son of a military officer (Army), I can affirm that our staff is genuinely passionate about our students. Every member of our team embraces the responsibility of treating each child with care and love as if they were their own, and it is this commitment that we are eager to find in potential new team members, particularly those who share our dedication to serving military families.

If you share our deep-seated commitment to the well-being and education of military-connected students, we invite you to join our Fort Belvoir Primary family. As educators, we understand the unique challenges and joys that come with being part of a military community, and we are excited to welcome individuals who are equally passionate about supporting and uplifting these families. Joining us means becoming a vital part of a team that cherishes each child, creating an environment where they can thrive academically and emotionally.

Together, let’s continue making a positive impact on the lives of our students and exemplify the unwavering dedication that defines Fort Belvoir Primary.

In partnership,

Dr. LaZedrick (Zed) Jemison, Principal

March 5 Presidential Primary Student Holiday

The Fairfax Board of Elections has requested that schools be closed on Tuesday, March 5, to accommodate the safe and efficient administration of the 2024 presidential primary election.

Therefore, March 5 will be a school holiday for students and a virtual School Planning Day. As outlined in Regulation 4421, School Planning Days are directed by school-based Administrators in order to devote time to school improvement efforts, including collaboration around data, common assessments, responsive instruction, etc.

FCPS Central offices will remain open. SACC will remain open, as on other professional work days.

Magic Science

This past Tuesday, our preschool and kindergarten students eagerly gathered for an enchanting assembly featuring a captivating magic show centered around the wonders of science. The performance skillfully blended entertainment and education, holding the attention of our young audience throughout the entire event. The interactive and lively presentation not only delighted the students but also provided them with a delightful exploration of the ways in which science intricately intertwines with our everyday world. It was a magical experience that left both children and teachers with a newfound appreciation for the marvels of science in our lives.

A Message from the Principal, Dr. Jemison

Fort Belvoir Primary Families,

I hope this letter finds you filled with enthusiasm! We are excited to share some wonderful news and highlights from our school as we embark on another impactful month of learning and growth.

Throughout February, our teachers have been inspiring students to reach new heights in their academic journey, especially in mathematics. The focus has been on challenging students to become more than problem solvers but analytical thinkers who can articulate and explain their reasoning. We believe that creating such skills not only enhances their understanding of mathematical concepts but also prepares them for a future where critical thinking is a valuable asset.

In the realm of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), our students have been engaging in fascinating explorations. The spotlight this month has been on the principles of force, with students delving into mechanics of pushing and pulling objects. THis hands-on experience is not only enhancing their understanding of physics but also encouraging them to apply their knowledge in creative and practical ways.

We are thrilled to witness the enthusiasm with which our students are approaching these challenges. Their ability to build upon their thinking and connect concepts across different subjects is truly commendable. It’s heartening to see their growth not only as learners but as well-rounded individuals ready to tackle the complexities of the world.

As we continue to high five our way through this impactful month, we want to express our gratitude to our dedicated teachers, supportive parents, and, most importantly, our incredible students.

Together, we are creating an environment that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for learning!

In partnership,

Dr. LaZedrick (Zed) Jemison, Principal

Congratulations, Ms. Ware!

A BIG congratulations to our very own, Ms. Ware! She is being acknowledged by the district for going above and beyond. Please see what a family shared below about her.

Ms. Ware has gone above and beyond to create a safe, fun and exciting learning environment. My son is so excited and eager to go to school every day because of her. She has been so patient and kind with him. His math and reading have improved so much since the start of the school year due to Ms. Ware and her teaching. It truly amazes me with how much he knows. Thank you for caring for our kiddos at Ft Belvoir Primary. We appreciate you!!

We encourage families to read this information posted on the February 2024 FCPS CARES webpage, accessible at https://www.fcps.edu/news/fcps-cares-february-2024 . If you would like to share your positive experiences about the Fort Belvoir staff with the district at large, please be sure to check out FCPS CARES.

Positive Affirmation for Students

Fostering a positive self-image is paramount for students, and our social-emotional lessons are designed to instill confidence and optimism. We emphasize the importance of speaking positively about one’s future, firmly believing that our students not only rank as the best in FCPS but are also exceptionally intelligent. Encouraging them to embrace challenges with the conviction that nothing is too difficult reinforces the notion that hard work can overcome any obstacle. We are encouraging families to contribute to this positive mindset by consistently affirming their child’s potential, as we firmly believe that our words have the power to shape a bright and successful future.

WeePlay Program Excitement!

Families are buzzing with excitement about the Wee Play program! Tailored for PreK families with younger siblings, this initiative allows them to join weekly playgroups where children can forge new friendships, engage in collaborative learning through play, and exchange ideas that foster overall development. The program provides a unique opportunity for parents and caregivers to actively contribute to their children’s growth while creating a supportive community. If you’re keen on participating in this enriching experience, simply reach out to the front office for an application.

Don’t miss out on the chance to make lasting memories and enhance your child’s early years through Wee Play!

Attendance Boost Call

We are thrilled to announce that our current student attendance stands at an impressive 18%, showcasing a significant improvement from last year’s 26%, which was already commendable. It is essential for our positive momentum to persist, and we kindly urge all parents to continue sending their children to school. It is crucial to remember that we are not a DoDEA school but a public school situated on a military installation. Our aim is to uphold our status among the top-performing schools for attendance, and we rely on your cooperation to achieve this goal. Let’s demonstrate to other schools that ours is capable of not only meeting but surpassing the district’s attendance targets. Your continued support is instrumental in our success.

No 3rd Quarter Interims - For Belvoir Primary

In the academic calendar, the 3rd quarter stands out as the briefest, comprising only 38 days. Due to its condensed time frame, the decision has been made not to distribute interim reports during this quarter. Nevertheless, teachers remain open to engaging in meaningful conversations with families upon request. For parents seeking insights into their child’s academic progress, communication channels such as email, phone calls, or Talking Points are actively encouraged. This collaborative approach ensures that families stay informed and connected with their child’s educational journey even in the absence of traditional interim reports.

Family Liaison Donation Request

We are seeking gently used clothing (boys/girls) sizes 6-12. We are also in need of new undergarments in their original packing. All donations may be dropped off at the Primary Main Office.

For any questions please contact Ms. Elliott at [email protected].

We thank you in advance for your contribution to our school community.

A Message from the Principal, Dr. Jemison

Dear Fort Belvoir Primary Families,

I am thrilled to share with you the wonderful events that unfolded last week at our school as our students came together to celebrate Friendship Day in lieu of Valentine’s Day.

The atmosphere throughout the building was filled with positivity and warmth as our students engaged in random acts of kindness. It was heartwarming to witness the genuine care and support they extended towards one another. Small gestures, such as writing kind words and celebrating each other’s accomplishments, created a sense of unity and camaraderie within our school community.

We are truly fortunate to have such a strong and compassionate community at Fort Belvoir Primary. The spirit of friendship and collaboration among our students is a testament to the values we strive to instill in them. As educators and parents, it is incredibly rewarding to see our children embrace the importance of kindness and appreciation for each other.

Let’s continue to foster this sense of community and encourage our students to carry these values forward. By nurturing friendships and supporting one another, we contribute to the creation of a positive and inclusive learning environment that will undoubtedly benefit our children in their academic and personal growth.

Together we are always and will be Fort Belvoir strong!

A Message from the Principals

Dear Fort Belvoir Primary Families,

Happy 100th Day of School! We hope this newsletter finds you well and filled with excitement as we celebrate this fantastic milestone in our academic journey.

As a primary elementary school, we take great joy in laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning. Our students are not just learners, they are explorers, kind, and thinkers. Today marks the 100th day of their exploration, and we couldn’t be more proud of the progress they’ve made.

To commemorate this special occasion, our students have been engaged in a variety of fun and educational activities. From interactive lessons to creative projects, the classrooms have been buzzing with energy and enthusiasm. It’s heartwarming to witness the joy on their faces as they discover new things and make connections in their understanding of the world.

At our school, we firmly believe that learning is a continuous journey. The 100th day of school is not just a milestone; it’s a reminder that every day brings fresh opportunities to learn, grow, and be curious. Our dedicated teachers and staff are committed to creating an environment where curiosity is celebrated, questions are encouraged, and the joy of discovery is a daily occurrence.

We encourage you to take a moment to celebrate this achievement with your child. Reflect on the progress they have made, the knowledge they have gained, and the friendships they have formed. Your support at home is an integral part of their educational journey, and we are grateful for the partnership we share in shaping their future.

Together we are always and will be Fort Belvoir strong!

Read 100 Books Challenge!

We are exhilarated to announce our “Read 100 Books” initiative, an exciting challenge presented to students in grades 1-2 by our amazing librarian, Ms. Kalletta. Throughout the month of February, our young readers will embrace the challenge with enthusiasm, demonstrating their remarkable determination and dedication. We firmly believe in the capabilities of our students and their ability to achieve any set goal. Families are warmly encouraged to actively support their children by reading alongside them at home, fostering a love for literature and strengthening family bonds. Furthermore, we extend the invitation to parents to join this literary adventure, promoting a shared commitment to the joy of reading within our school community.

This week was National School Counseling Week!

Join us as we highlight school counselors' tremendous impact in helping students achieve academic success and planning for a career. Learn more about the role of school counselors in FCPS

Our school counselors, Mrs. Brogan and Mr. Kamali, work with students in various capacities, whether through classroom lessons, group sessions, or individual counseling.

Please encourage your child(ren) to make them a card, write a thank you note, or just take a moment to let our school counselors know how much you appreciate them!

Fort Belvoir MP Appreciation

We express our sincere gratitude to the Fort Belvoir Military Police Department for generously dedicating their time to engage with our youngest learners. Their informative session shed light on the crucial role they play within our school community, creating a deeper understanding of the vital services they provide.

Establishing strong relationships with our community partners is a fundamental pillar of our mission, and the visit from the Military Police exemplifies the collaborative spirit that strengthens the bond between our school and the dedicated individuals who serve and protect our community.

Poetry Slam in Second Grade!

Ms. Mueller’s and Ms. Belenky’s language arts classes recently collaborated for an inspiring partner reading and poetry slam. Breaking away from the traditional applause, students snapped their fingers to express appreciation for their classmates’ poetic endeavors. Both classes successfully completed their poetry units, and the teachers along with myself are immensely proud of them.

The creative thinking displayed by these young minds is truly remarkable and has the power to captivate anyone. We want to encourage our second grade parents to review the poetry created by their student(s) crafted during this enriching experience.

Our school is currently facing a pressing need for new clothing to assist students who require replacements during the school day. Specifically, we are seeking donations of undergarments for both boys and girls. These items will greatly benefit students in maintaining a sense of comfort. For further information or to contribute to this essential cause, please reach out to our school Family Liaison, Mrs. Elliott. Attendance Incentive!

We are excited to announce our latest initiative aimed at enhancing student attendance. Recognizing the crucial link between consistent attendance and academic success, we’ve introduced a new system. After teachers take attendance in the mornings, they will place a sign on their door indicating that all students are present. At the end of each month, the class with the highest rate of perfect attendance per grade level will be awarded Flip, a charming stuffed dolphin. This fun incentive adds an element of friendly competition and encourages students to strive for regular attendance, fostering a positive and engaging learning environment. Families are encouraged to review FCPS attendance policies

Successful Lockdown Drill at Fort Belvoir Primary

This past Tuesday marked the successful completion of our final lockdown drill, a testament to the commendable behavior of our students. We take pride in their ability to remain calm and diligently follow their teachers’ instructions throughout the entire exercise. Despite being situated on a military installation, where safety is of utmost importance, our staff consistently reinforces safety protocols during all drills. It is imperative that we prioritize preparedness, and the disciplined response of our students during these drills reflects the effectiveness of our collective commitment to ensuring a secure learning environment.

We invite families to learn more about the FCPS lockdown drills using the link HERE. Additionally, families can learn about other FCPS safety drills using the link HERE

Dismissal Procedure Reminder for Families

We want to take a moment to reinforce the importance of adhering to our dismissal procedures for the well-being and security of all our students.

In our ongoing commitment to providing a safe environment, we kindly ask that any modifications to your child’s transportation arrangement be communicated in writing to the school. You can accomplish this by sending an email to [email protected] or by providing a written letter to the front office. It is imperative that any changes to a student’s dismissal plan are conveyed before 3:30pm on the respective day.

The safety of our students is our utmost priority. In the event that a student is unaccounted for during dismissal, our safety plan will be activated. This involves contacting FCPS transportation services and conducting thorough checks on all buses assigned to Fort Belvoir in the hope of locating the student. This process may affect other families waiting at the bus stops. Additionally, we initiate contact with FCPS Safety and Security, as well as relevant authorities, to assist in locating the student. We take the safety of all students seriously and consider this protocol crucial.

We appreciate your cooperation and adhering to these dismissal procedures. Your support is integral to maintaining a safe and secure school environment for all of our students.

Gratitude for Snack Donation

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Catholic Women of the Chapel on Fort Belvoir for their generous donation of snacks to the students at both Fort Belvoir Elementary School(s). Ms. Escobar, a dedicated parent of an Upper student, and Mrs. D’Avignon, both devoted members, exemplify the spirit of compassion and kindness. This thoughtful gesture demonstrates the power of community support, and we are truly appreciative of the organization’s commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of our students.

Dentists Educate Second Graders

Our second graders gained valuable insights into the importance of good dental hygiene during a special visit from Dr. Kim and Dr. Obeck. These dedicated dentists generously took two days away from their busy practice to share their knowledge with our students. Through engaging discussions and interactive activities, our young learners not only learned about the significance of proper oral care but also had the opportunity to ask questions and actively participate in promoting their own dental well-being. Dr. Kim and Dr. Obeck’s commitment to educating our students reflects their passion for community health and contributes to fostering a lifelong understanding of the importance of maintaining good dental hygiene habits.

FCPS funds the use of Lexia for all elementary and middle schools to use as part of their literacy instruction. Lexia is a computer-based program that supplements classroom instruction to help students develop literacy skills. It also provides teachers with data to identify students who need additional support, and the ability to know which specific concepts and skills to prioritize.Attend an information night on Monday, February 12, at 6:30 p.m., at Thoreau Middle School. Parents/caregivers will learn more about Lexia, and how FCPS is integrating it into the classroom and supporting student growth in reading. Attendees will also get tips for supporting their students at home.

Register to attend or submit a question in advance. Unable to attend in person? Join on Zoom

Integrating Lexia into the literacy curriculum aligns with the Virginia Literacy Act, FCPS’ Equitable Access to Literacy, and FCPS Strategic Plan Goal 3, which aims to have all students reading on level by the end of third grade.

A Message from the Principal, Dr. Jemison

Fort Belvoir Families,

Happy Groundhog Day! As we reach a pivotal point in the school year, it is crucial for us to reflect on the progress our students have made academically. I am excited to share with you the results of our recent winter testing in literacy and mather using the iReady assessment tool.

These data points serve as valuable insights into the academic growth of our students and provide us with an opportunity to refine our pedagogical strategies. Moreover, they play a significant role in helping us gauge our process in achieving the goals outlined in our School Innovation & Improvement Plan.

As it relates to literacy, we have a total of 24.4% students performing above grade level, 71.1% approaching mastery and 4.6% performing below grade level in first grade. While second grade has 27.8% students performing above grade level, 58% approaching mastery and 14.1% performing below grade level.

In math for second grade 11.8% are above grade level, 71.1% are approaching mastery and 17.2% are performing below grade level. Additionally, first grade has 7.6% students performing above grade level, 87.8% approaching mastery level and 4.6% performing below grade level. Our data is going in the right direction.

In addition, I am delighted to inform you that our Lexia data for literacy reveals a commendable 31% growth for our school. We have more students moving into the in or above grade level category. This daunting task is indeed a cause for celebration, and it reflects the dedication and hard work of both our students and educators. However, we acknowledge that there is still a long way to go, particularly in reaching our overarching goal of having all students reading on grade level. Your partnership in this endeavor is invaluable. Together, we can create an environment that fosters academic excellence and sets the foundation for a successful future.

Together we are Fort Belvoir strong!

In partnership with,

Dr. LaZedrick (Zed) Jemison, Principal

Wishful Thinking - Groundhog’s Day at Fort Belvoir Primary

In our school building, students engaged in the anticipation of Groundhog Day by making predictions on whether the groundhog would see his shadow. Teachers incorporated this theme across various subjects, with some reading stories about the tradition of Groundhog Day, while others utilized graphs during math lessons to illustrate and explain their predictions. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as students expressed their collective hope for the groundhog to cast a shadow, anticipating six more weeks of winter and the potential for additional snow days.

Growing Enrollment at Fort Belvoir Primary!

Fort Belvoir Primary is walking into February with an increasing number of students, currently totalling 764. This marks a growth from the previous year’s enrollment of 702 students, a testament to the school’s rising reputation for academic excellence and dedicated staff. The positive news about the school’s achievements is spreading fast, attracting more families to join the school community.

In January alone, 31 new students were welcomed, underscoring the school’s commitment to inclusivity. The First Friends club, a student-led initiative, plays a vital role in ensuring newcomers feel at home. This group of ambassadors gathers monthly to share meals with students new to the building, fostering connections and a sense of belonging. Meanwhile, the Fort Belvoir Elementary School(s) Family Ambassadors extend their support to adults, helping them navigate the area and seamlessly integrate into the Fort Belvoir community. The school’s holistic approach to welcome families underscores its commitment to creating a positive and supportive learning environment for all.

The Love We Have for Ms. Silvia Espinoza!

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the departure of our beloved Cafeteria Manager, Ms. Silvia Espinoza, who has made the heartfelt decision to return to her home state of Florida. Silvia has been an integral part of the Fort Belvoir Primary family for several years, leaving an indelible mark on the staff, students, and families alike. With her warm smile and dedication, Silvia greeted every child with kindness, providing not just meals but also a sense of comfort and joy. As she embarks on this new chapter in her life, we express our deepest gratitude for the positive impact she has had on our school community. Instead of saying goodbye, we choose to say ‘see you later,’ knowing that Silvia will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Highly Impactful Social Skills for Students

As we embark on a new year, cultivating essential interpersonal skills is paramount for students. Each day, as part of our social-emotional learning curriculum, teachers are dedicated to instructing students on the art of meaningful engagement. Recognizing that these social skills are indispensable for future success, families are encouraged to extend these conversations beyond the classroom.

In an era dominated by technology, where virtual communication often takes precedence over face-to-face interactions, it is crucial that students are equipped with the ability to connect authentically. We aspire for our students to navigate conversations thoughtfully, leading with both their intellect and compassion, ensuring they excel in the interpersonal aspect of our increasingly digital society.

A message from our Family Liaison, Ms. Elliott  Here Comes the Bus

Want to know if your child's bus is on schedule or where the bus is? Here Comes the Bus® is an easy-to-use website and app that enables parents to see the location of their child’s school bus — almost in real time — on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer.

Parents can track multiple buses if their children don’t all ride the same bus; know exactly when children arrive at school or the bus stop; and receive customized text and/or email notifications about bus locations, schedule changes, or delays.

To get started, download the app from the Apple iOS or Android app store. Check out the Here Comes the Bus and Frequently Asked Questions webpages for more information.
