2021-2022 ESSER III/School Innovation and Improvement Plan

Background: The Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) is a federal grant which requires that spending be used in specific areas. Part of the Fairfax County Public Schools spending plan identifies funding to be used for Unfinished Learning and Student Academic and Social, Emotional, Mental Health (Wellness) Needs. Schools have been given funding allocations to support the academic and wellness needs of students. Schools are required to create plans in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Wellness highlighting the strategies they will use to support these areas using their ESSER III funding. These strategies are shown below.

ESSER III English Language Arts Strategies

Outcome

Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in English Language Arts.

Strategy 1

  • The staff will engage in professional learning around reading instruction.

Strategy 2

  • The staff will utilize MTSS to monitor and support students in their reading development.

Strategy 3

  • We will provide students with needs-based interventions aligned to the Science of Reading.

ESSER III Mathematics Strategies

Outcome

Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Mathematics.

Strategy 1

  • Staff will engage in professional learning around math instruction.

Strategy 2

  • The staff will utilize MTSS to monitor and support students with their math needs.

ESSER III Wellness Strategies

Outcome

Ensure students feel safe, included, and supported in the school environment.

Strategy 1

  • Tier I supports will be increased through the use of Zones of Regulation tools: posters, language training, universal Calm Corners for all classrooms (Specials included), and various trainings on implementing Zones of Regulation in all classrooms.

Strategy 2

  • Fort Belvoir Primary will implement targeted tier 2 interventions for students demonstrating a high level of need, based on Student Check-In data as well as parent/teacher referrals.

Strategy 2

  • Deliver small-group Tier 2 instruction to target essential standards.

Strategy 3

  • Deliver small-group Tier 3 instruction to targeted to address literacy skills.

Strategy 4

  • Utilize research-based strategies to Increase teachers' understanding of student engagement to maximize student learning during English Language Arts.

ESSER III Wellness Strategies

Outcome

Ensure students feel safe, included, and supported in the school environment.

Strategy 1

  • FBUS SEL Committee will monitor schoolwide SEL screener data taken BOY and MOY, and assist in the planning and implementation of Tier 1 interventions, to address identified social/emotional needs.

Strategy 2

  • FBUS will implement Tier 2 SEL interventions for those students displaying elevated needs, based on SEL Screener, and teacher/parent referrals for increased support.
