What Makes Us Special
Fort Belvoir Primary School is committed to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment. Located in a vibrant military community, we excel in providing a well-rounded education that meets the diverse needs of its students. We also prioritize inclusivity, ensuring all children feel valued and supported. Additionally, we have strong connection to the local community and engaging extracurricular opportunities make it a truly exceptional place for young learners to grow and thrive.
Academic Achievement at Fort Belvoir Primary
Fort Belvoir Primary exceeds expectations for Kindergarten to 2nd grade students in literacy standards based on state assessments, despite having one of the most transient student populations in FCPS.
Student Programs are Essential at Fort Belvoir Primary
We offer an Enhanced Autism program, a preschool autism classroom, a preschool program and are proud to be a Compassionate Assignment School where students with autism or other medical diagnoses like cancer or health impairments come to be supported in their educational journey.
Community Engagement is Part of Our Foundation
We are proud of our work to engage our community. We partner with Capital Food Bank to provide a monthly food market in which families in need can pull up in their vehicle, communicate what items they’d like to take home and have a staffer bring it to their car, or they are welcome to come in and shop for useful products themselves. On Veterans Day, we invite local veterans to read to kids. One school favorite is Arnie, an 89-year-old who served in Vietnam and is very animated when he reads!
We host an annual Monster Mash family dance in October, sponsored by our Parent Teacher Organization, to bring families together ahead of Halloween too! Often military families are seeking ways to connect with other families. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to connect and share their experiences.
School Culture Sets Us Apart
We are a Purple Star school and are currently in the running to receive Tier One ranking from the state of Virginia for our efforts to engage and include military families.
At Fort Belvoir Primary, students serving as First Friends welcome new students at a monthly lunch bunch. New students and their First Friend come together with other new students and their First Friend to each lunch, share about where they have lived, and just enjoy a time to get to know other students in the school.
Facilities Harbor Great Learning
FCPS won more than $23 million in federal grant funds in 2014 to expand and renovate schools on Fort Belvoir base.
College and Career Readiness
We take pride in our students’ commitment to their education and life-long learning. Fort Belvoir Primary participates in an annual STEAM night with other Mount Vernon High School pyramid schools to encourage our students to start thinking about future learning and career opportunities in these areas.
Dedicated Staff
Our staff constantly goes above and beyond to dedicate their time back to our school community. Whether its staying late for trainings they volunteer to take, creating resources and signage for events, collaborating with each other or attending their students' extracurricular activities, our teachers have hearts of gold that they constantly pour into our community and students.
Special Recognitions
Fort Belvoir Primary received the Exemplar Award for Continuous Improvement from the state board of education in 2023 for showing continuous growth in academic and school quality indicators.
FBPS Fosters Creativity and Expression
At Fort Belvoir, students are encouraged to express themselves creatively in many different ways. We offer a 'You-seum' for students to showcase their art and collections and highlight their interest. We also showcase students' interest by having a student-run News Show, as well as events like our Macy's Day Parade for students to showcase their artistic talents.
Our Volunteers
Our school thrives thanks to the unwavering support of our families, who generously give their time and energy. Our Family Ambassadors are constantly in our building providing their time and efforts to make our daily routines and events go smoothly. This strong partnership between home and school makes our Fort Belvoir Elementary Campus truly special.
Fort Belvoir Primary is more than a school—it's a community where young minds are nurtured, and spirits are uplifted. Together, we learn, grow, and make an impact. Join us in celebrating the magic of #DolphinPride!
