Absence and Tardy Procedures

When a student is absent or tardy an explanation is required from parents. It is the parent’s responsibility to notify the school of the reason for the child’s absence or tardiness.

Please be specific about why your student is not attending. Be sure to include symptoms if they are ill, especially if they have fever, nausea, vomiting, sore throat and/or cough. If your child has a diagnosis from a health care provider, please include that information.

If you do not use or have access to a computer or telephone, the reason for your child’s absence must be provided in writing within two days of his/her return to school. Otherwise, the absence will be reported as unexcused.

Excused Absences/Tardiness

  • Absences are excused in situations of: illness; death in the family; medical appointments; or observance of a religious holiday; or an urgent medical appointment.

Unexcused Absences/Tardiness

  • Absences are unexcused in situations of: family trips; childcare problems; oversleeping; nonschool-related activities; traffic; missed buses; etc.
