English Language Arts Strategies

Outcome

  • By Spring 2024, the percentage of students with disabilities in grades 1-2 meeting their within-year growth target will increase by 10 or more percentage points (from 47% to 57%) as measured by iReady Reading.
  • By Spring 2024, the percentage of all students in grades K-2 meeting their within-year growth target will increase by 10 percentage points (from 61% to 71%), as measured by PALS and iReady.

Strategy 1

  • Improve daily, systematic, explicit instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, and morphology in the core language arts block. (HLP 2)

Strategy 2

  • Increase use of data (e.g., iReady, CORE, PASS, PRF, WIDA) to plan instruction and monitor progress for students demonstrating risk. (HLP 2-5)

Strategy 3

  • Expand use of conversation structures to increase academic talk and build relationships among students. (HLP 1, 3)

Mathematics Strategies

Outcome

  • By Spring 2024, the percentage of all students in grades K-2 meeting their grade level expectations will increase by 10 or more percentage points (from 63% to 73%, as measured by iReady and EMAS.
  • By Spring 2024, the percentage of students with disabilities in grades 1-2 meeting their grade level expectations will increase by 10 or more percentage points (from 39% to 49%), as measured by iReady.

Strategy 1

  • Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective mathematics intervention.

Strategy 2

  • Increase teachers' implementation strategies related to Shift 4; from show and tell to share and compare.

Strategy 3

  • Increase students' self-efficacy around the ability to be successful in mathematics.

Chronic Absenteeism Strategies

Outcome

  • By the end of the 2023-2024 school year, we will reduce our school's chronic absenteeism rate from 22.5% to below 15% as evidenced by our school's chronic absenteeism data.

Strategy 1

  • Strengthen school team practices to monitor attendance data and determine need for intervention and additional support.

Strategy 2

  • Understand root causes of student absenteeism.  Strengthen programmatic responses to attendance barriers.

Strategy 3

  • Create a school culture of engagement & belonging for students and families.  Every staff, student, and family will feel safe and connected to the school community.

English Language Arts Strategies

Outcome

  • By June 2024, 80% of all students in grades 3-6 will pass the Spring 2024 Reading SOL tests (increase of 10 percentage points compared to 2023).
  • All subgroups will increase their pass rates by 10 percentage points on the 2024 Reading SOL tests (Black: 74%; White: 84%; Asian: 88%; Hispanic: 73%; Multiple Races: 78%; Students with Disabilities: 51%; Economically Disadvantaged: 74%; English Learners: 43%).

Strategy 1

  • Expand access to evidence-based tier 1 instruction as well as intervention for students demonstrating risk in a multi-tiered system of supports. (HLP 1-5)

Strategy 2

  • Increase impact of tier 2 interventions for students demonstrating risk by using FCPS-recommended programs and practices with fidelity (e.g., Lexia, UFLI). (HLP 5)

Strategy 3

  • Increase use of data (e.g., iReady, CORE, PASS, PRF, WIDA) to plan instruction and monitor progress for students demonstrating risk. (HLP 2-5)

Mathematics Strategies

Outcome

  • By June 2024, 74% of all students in grades 3-6 will pass the Spring 2024 Math SOL tests (increase of 10 percentage points compared to 2023).
  • All subgroups will increase their pass rates by 10 percentage points on the 2024 Math SOL tests (Black: 61%; White: 77%; Asian: 88%; Hispanic: 68%; Multiple Races: 85%; Economically Disadvantaged: 72%; English Learners: 52%). The students with disabilities subgroup will increase their pass rate by 15 percentage points on the 2024 Math SOL tests (52%).

Strategy 1

  • Increase teachers implementation strategies related to Shift 8: from looking for correct answers towards revealing student thinking.

Strategy 2

  • Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective mathematics intervention.

Strategy 3

  • Increase use of data (e.g., iReady, tasks, common formative assessments, VGA) to plan instruction and monitor progress for students demonstrating risk.

Chronic Absenteeism Strategies

Outcome

  • By June 2024, the chronic absenteeism rate will decrease by 5 percentage points (from 18% to 13%).

Strategy 1

  • Strengthening messaging to staff, students and families around attendance to school. Each stakeholder should be able to understand how daily attendance matters, not only for academic success, but because school offers an opportunity to develop social and emotional skills such as listening, paying attention, problem-solving and self-regulation, all which are needed to grow and learn.

Strategy 2

  • Develop community partnerships to promote engagement opportunities for increased student attendance.

Strategy 3 

  • Create a school culture of engagement & belonging for students and families. Every staff, student, and family will feel safe and connected to the school community.

Portrait of a Graduate (POG) Strategies

Goal 5: Leading for Tomorrow's Innovation

Outcome

  • 100% of students will create a student made POG POL portfolio which will include pieces of evidence that will demonstrate their ability to reflect on their learning throughout the year. (communicator)

Strategy 1

  • Students will participate in project based learning throughout the year.

Strategy 2

  • Specialists will implement Project Based Learning opportunities in all grade levels focusing on Portrait of a Graduate attributes.
